About Namaste Yoga

Our Philosophy

You are your own guru. We believe that the mat always meets you where you are, no matter where you are in your practice. You adapt postures to your body, rather than struggling to meet them. This creates a balance of comfort and strength, steadiness and ease while cultivating a yoga practice that connects mind and body.

We understand that learning anything new requires starting at the beginning. That’s why we encourage our students to meet their bodies and minds right where they are. Yoga isn’t about touching your toes or achieving a certain pose; it’s about the journey of practice. Each time you attend a class or settle into a posture or find concentration in meditation, you practice. Little by little, you create opportunities for connection between mind and body.

It is said that yoga is 99% practice and 1% knowledge. We believe that yoga is attained by showing up, practicing, and moving with your greatest teacher: your own breath

Namaste Yoga follows the yogic principle of Ahimsa by striving to maintain a studio space where everyone has equal access to resources and receives equitable treatment regardless of race, gender, ability, income, or age.

We acknowledge the practice of yoga in the United States usually centers on postures, and not yoga philosophy or tenets of yoga. However, we strive to be respectful of the origins of yoga in the context in which we live. When speaking of yoga philosophy, we recognize the Yoga Sutra is a translation of the teachings of the yoga tradition as told by the sage Patanjali. It has been translated multiple times and with changes in society, the interpretations of this ancient wisdom shift as well. Therefore, the interpretations we use here have come from multiple sources that include traditional and modern applications and we have worked to represent the intent, independent of colonial interpretations, of each sutra to the best of our ability
